Functional Laboratory Tests

Testing can take the guess work out of health improvement and help us pinpoint current imbalances that may be undermining your health.

Whereas genetic testing shows your inherent strengths, weaknesses and dispositions, Functional Laboratory Testing can tell us what is manifesting in your body in the here and now.

The best of all worlds is to combine Genetic Testing with Functional Testing. Armed with this information, we can work together to design a targeted wellness plan to help you achieve, and most importantly, sustain your health goals.

In your Nutritional Consultation we may decide however, that Functional Testing is more appropriate for you at this point in time and we would discuss, in the context of your health history and symptoms, which would be the most relevant option.

I work with a range of laboratories such as Genova Diagnostics, Regenerus Laboratories, KBMO Diagnostics, Invivo Clinical.  Contact me for more details and prices.

The tests I most commonly recommend are:

Functional Laboratory Tests

Tests Offered

Many people feel that their symptoms are caused or triggered by the foods they eat.  A food intolerance test (finger-tip blood spot) can highlight the foods that are most likely to be causing issues for you.  Prices vary according to the number of foods tested.

Medications, stress, poor or restricted diet, lack of fibre, illness can lead to a range of digestive issues.  A Comprehensive Stool Analysis Test allows us to take a peek inside your gut and assess levels of beneficial bacteria, pathogenic bacteria, yeasts, parasites, integrity of the gut lining, inflammation, digestive capacity.  This test requires stool samples.

Such as Vitamin D, B12, Folate, Iron – Many people these days  – due to diet restrictions or genetics weakness in processing/absorbing – can be low in key nutrients that impact many areas of our health and wellbeing.  Some of these nutrients can be tested with a finger-prick blood test, while others require venous blood collection.

Cholesterol, Blood Sugar, Homocysteine – Metabolic disorders such as High Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes and Prediabetes, Obesity, High Blood Sugar are on the rise in Western countries and have devastating affects on your health and future health risk.  As always, prevention is better than cure and the information from these tests allows you to take action to prevent or possibly reverse trends towards Metabolic Dysfunction.  Venous blood samples required.

Our hormones govern many functions in our body and understanding where hormonal imbalances are occurring and taking the appropriate action can bring about changes in health and wellbeing.  Usually these tests are Urine collection, and may need to be taken at a specific point in your cycle.

These days many of us are under constant stress leading to imbalances in cortisol production.  Understanding where and when your cortisol spikes or crashes enables us to take specific action to support your adrenal health.  This is a saliva test usually taken in a series of samples over a 24 hour period.
